Exploratory Meeting between UPMFB and GOU on STEP Programme

At the Exploratory Meeting between UPMFB and GOU on a partnership regarding GOU's Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion (STEP) programme.

From Left: Mr Charles Udeani, Head, Business Development (UPMFB); Mrs Ifeoma Oruruo, Director, Coal City Cab Fleet Managers Ltd (a subsidiary of UPMFB); Mr Odinaka Okeke, Head of Operations (UPMFB); Rev. Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, Board Chairman (UPMFB); Mr Christopher Uwakwe, Director, Directorate of Entrepreneurship (GOU); Ms Meggy Kantert, Coordinator, STEP programme (GOU); Mr Charles Ozor, Managing Director (UPMFB); and Mr Clifford Obu, Company Secretary (UPMFB).

The programme is an initiative of the Austrian Government's International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). Twenty-seven countries, including Nigeria, are collaborating on the programme. The aim is to solve the migration problem by changing the mindset of young people to see entrepreneurship as a career option.

They are transformed from job seekers to job creators, and this would help solve the endemic unemployment problem which is a major reason why people migrate from the shores of their country in search of greener pastures. It is action-based (not theoretical), hands-on, and locally embedded (i.e. the participants are trained on entrepreneurship by local trainers).

The motto is "Yes, I can!", and participants are also closely monitored and given the support and advice they need to succeed.

The meeting was held on Friday, 8th July 2022, and another meeting is scheduled to hold Friday 15th July 2022 where the further details of the partnership will be thrashed out.

The venue of the meeting of 8th July 2022 was the Boardroom, UPMFB Corporate Headquarters, No. 5 CIDJAP Street, Uwani, Enugu, and the next meeting would be held at the same venue.
