The bond between two sister institutions, Umuchinemere Pro-credit Microfinance Bank and Godfrey Okoye University was bolstered up recently when the latter donated bond new Desk Top computer sets to the former to contribute to its progress and efficiency.
The HP brand of new computer sets was formally presented to the bank by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, on behalf of the institution, precisely on May 19, 2011 at the office of the Vice Chancellor.
The bank and the university have a common parent, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, which established the two organizations, first the bank in July 1995 and later the university in 2008.
The bank which has a vibrant office at the university played a key financial role in the university getting its operation approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and had ever been having a tie binding the two organizations together since the conception and ward commencement of the university.
Presenting the computers to the bank, Rev. Prof. Anieke described the bank as "one that resembles what we're doing and carries the image of the university boldly to the outside world".
Promising to keep the relationship between the two sister institutions (one finance, and the other, academic), the Vice Chancellor explained that the gifts to the bank by the university in keeping with his earlier promise"to contribute meaningfully to the efficiency and progress of the bank".
He said that donation actually showed that the university was willing to partner the bank in the work evangelization for human and society development.
The Vice Chancellor personally expressed gratitude for all that the bank had done far sustenance of the university's bank and should not be just an attachment to Umuchinemere but the heart of Unuchinemre.
"As far as the university is concerned the Unuchinemere Bank as our own bank. It's not just a bank like any other bank, but our own bank. And that's how I understand it. And that's the way I see whatever we're doing to the bank to help it to grow", Prof. Anieke declared.
Receiving the computers on behalf of the bank, a management official and head of the Public/Media Relations unit of the bank, Sir Abuchi Anuegiagu, who stood in for the managing director, Mrs. Nnenna Maria Ekete, who was unavoidably absent on the occasion, thanked the university for the gesture, promising that the gift would be appropriately used to enhance the bank's operations on the university campus.
Sir. Anueyiagu described the gift as a remarkable and eloquent testimony of the strong bond between the two sister organizations and a good fruit of the relationship.
He said that bank had already embarked on the process of enhancing its operations and services at the university, having acquired were space for expansion.
