UPMFB Marks 30th Anniversary with Thanksgiving Mass and Reunion of Leadership

Umuchinemere Procredit Micro Finance Bank (UPMFB) celebrated its 30th anniversary in a spirit of thanksgiving and reflection on Friday, 19th July 2025. The milestone was commemorated with a solemn Holy Mass held at the bank’s headquarters, drawing together past and present directors, senior staff, and friends of the institution.

The Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Geoffrey Aguigwo, the former Chairman of the bank and representative of the Bishop of Enugu, the legal holder of UPMFB. In his homily, Msgr. Aguigwo praised the bank’s mission-driven legacy, its steady growth over three decades, and its unwavering focus on financial inclusion and community upliftment. He also encouraged staff and leadership to remain faithful stewards of the bank’s founding values.

A highlight of the celebration was the presence of the current Chairman of the Board, Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, a distinguished scholar and global ethics advocate. Msgr. Ike had previously served as Chairman till 2016 when he took up the leadership of Globethics.net in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2022, he returned to chair the bank once again, bringing a renewed vision grounded in values-based governance and international development experience. His leadership continues to inspire UPMFB’s mission of sustainable banking for the grassroots.

The event served as a reunion for many directors and leaders who have played pivotal roles in shaping UPMFB’s journey over the past 30 years. Their presence underscored the unity and continuity of purpose that have kept the bank grounded in service to the people.

With moments of prayer, shared memories, and renewed commitment, UPMFB’s 30th anniversary celebration highlighted the bank’s enduring impact as a people-centered financial institution. The leadership expressed gratitude to all stakeholders—especially the customers, staff, and shareholders—who have been part of the journey since 1995.
